Tests and Diagnostic Techniques

Parasite and Yeast Detection:

Parasites

Parasites are known to cause gastroenteritis with symptoms of intermittent
diarrhea and constipation, flatulence and cramping. Parasites have also been
implicated in painful joint and muscular conditions, neurological problems
and colitis. The disease is spread either directly (as between children in
day-care centers or between sexual partners) or by food and water. Some of
the most commonly seen parasites include:

  • Amoeba
  • Giardia lamblia
  • Iodamoeba butschlii
  • Blastocystis hominis
  • Intestinal helminths worms
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

Yeast

Yeast overgrowth in the intestinal tract is not uncommon. The causes of
yeast overgrowth are lack of stomach acidity, poor immunity, antibiotic
overuse, ingestion of excess alcohol and sugar, ingestion of food sources of
yeast such as fermented foods. Some of the more commonly identified species
are C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. parascilosis, Rhodotorula and Geotrichum.
Both pharmaceutical and natural substances are used to determine which
agents are best at killing that particular yeast identifying which drug will
be best in treating each individual. Gastrointestinal yeast may be
responsible for the cause of intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome),
flatulence, belching, stomach pain, vaginal yeast infections, brain fog,
estrogen related disorders and others.
